Why Fulham midfielder Josh King could be set for a breakout season

The time has come for Fulham to realise the full potential of Josh King.

Fulham have a history of letting young talent slip through their fingers, so it is no surprise they have been cautious with the 18-year-old English midfielder.

King has been eased into first-team action, making 8 Premier League appearances in the 24/25 season, 7 of those off the bench.

It seems, however, that Fulham may have recognised their previous mistakes. King signed a new long-term deal in July, his second contract in 18 months.

What we can take from this is two things. Firstly, there has been some interest from other clubs. Secondly, there is a belief that he is ready for a bigger role in the upcoming season.

Getting a regular place won’t be so easy, though. King likely sits third in the pecking order for the number 10 position. Andreas Pereira and club record signing Emile Smith Rowe’s experience gives them a considerable advantage over King.

Even so, I’m confident King has been promised a significant increase in playing time over the upcoming year; his new contract will require it.

Marco Silva knows the demands of the schedule and how it will inevitably lead to opportunities for the team’s youth, especially King.

Based on the impressive flashes we’ve seen from King so far, I’m expecting him to shine when he gets his chance.
