Fulham fans, let the new season magic begin
There has been a lot of depression, dismay, and despair across the Fulham fanbase with the lack of transfer activity thus far this summer.
No outfield players in, and a number of reports that our mighty Rodrigo Muniz may leave.
Saturday does, however, bring another season of excitement and wonder, and it is important to remember that all is not doom and gloom. We will get high-quality signings in the end, we always do.
We have put incredibly exciting record bids in for a Brazilian wonder kid. Muniz, like Kenny Tete, may yet stay, and we have secured crucial assets, both future gems and current key cogs in the mighty Fulham wheel.
Keep the faith, get beyond excited about the new season, and don’t stop yourself from dreaming big. That is what makes football such a beautiful game, as no matter what adversity you face, anything is possible…
When Saturday comes
Your alarm goes on, and as your consciousness starts to grip reality, a tidal wave of endorphins as powerful as a tsunami begin to flood through your brain.
The excitement rises as you remember today is the day! It’s the first day of the season, match day, baby! You are addicted to a drug, and you have been cold-turkeying for three months.
That drug is your beloved Fulham Football Club, and you are twitching, ready to give in to temptation to get that beautiful, sweet release hit that you have been craving for so long.
Springing out of bed like a child at Christmas, your first job of the day is to make a very challenging decision. Do you go for the crisp, sleek all white, sharp beauty, or the bright green wonder with that crest that reminds you of simpler times? It’s a tough choice.
You feel the nostalgia of your youth, and you imagine Sean Davis, after that magical release video, whispering in your ear, “Just do it, you know you want to”. Sean knows best, and you go green!
On your way
Shower, shave, and fry up down and you’re on your way! Beers, banter, more food, the hustle and bustle of the crowd.
There is electricity in the air. It’s tangible, you can feel it, you can hear it, you can taste it, you can sense it in every way. It is the best time of year to be a football fan.
Why? Because it’s the one time of year when absolutely anything is possible. Like a kid with their whole life ahead of them, you are filled with the wonder of what could be?
You haven’t had the lows yet, and you can purely focus on dreaming about the highs. All the negativity about transfer business over the summer is shoved to the back of your mind. Are your dreams realistic? Who cares? You let your mind get completely carried away with what the season could hold and convince yourself that Fulham have the best team in the history of football.
What a team
Leno is going to use that big German frame to repeatedly make point-blank saves. We have a reserve keeper who can save a pen!
Tete is still bleeding black and white rather than dirty blue and has built a steel wall that no winger can break through.
Andersen, with his menacing new cut, has lost some wind resistance and is three yards quicker! He has been calibrating his long-range laser-guided missiles for those beautiful switches.
Bassey is going to plough through strikers like a wrecking ball. Robinson has the energiser batteries locked and loaded and is never going to stop causing havoc down the left, pocketing the best wingers in the league as he goes.
Sasa will be snapping at ankles like a snarling terrier, and Sander will be a Rolls-Royce midfielder, breaking up attacks and gliding effortlessly through the middle of the pitch.
ESR after a full pre-season is going to turn flashes of brilliance into a shining light that dazzles us all. Harry is going to cut inside and bend shots into the top corner with a swaz curl that Beckham in his 90’s predators would be proud of.
He’ll be the one who puts the ball in the Brentford net, yet again breaking Bees hearts and making the Championship the final destination bus stop.
Star boy Josh King is getting on the half turn in spaces and with glue on his boots is going to take sublime touches and be a creative magician.
Muniz (hopefully!) is bagging 20 with all his mins per goal promise, and all of Raul’s rabonas are coming off.
Oh, and Sess will be sprinkling born and bred Fulham magic, popping up right place, right time with crucial goals, kissing the badge as he basks in the Hammyends’ love. We will cry “he’s one of our own” on a loop. The limbs are going to be epic!
Dreaming big
We’re getting our record points tally and our highest ever finish. We’re winning a trophy, and as TC climbs the steps at Wembley in his final Fulham appearance, you realise he is carrying the FA cup off into the sunset whilst the statue makers get to work on the bronze. Passports will be dusted off, and you can look forward to beers in some random bar in Eastern Europe.
You can see it all. It could all happen with our genius MS in charge of this mighty Fulham team. You believe!
Arrived and ready
You have made it to the ground and take your seat. The pitch is a beautiful green carpet, lines sharp, sprinklers on to get that ball fizzing. Flame throwers fill the stadium with heat as music blares. Goose pimples rise, and your hair prickles with anticipation, knowing that heat will be matched with the battle that is about to unfold on the field. The whistle goes, a roar of “come on Fulham” is deafening, and it begins!
Anything is possible
So, try and forget all the current transfer misery and just remember that this is the best time of year for a Fulham fan, as anything is possible! Wilfully lose yourself in dreams of FFC glory and enjoy that beautiful Fulham hit that you have been craving for so long. I know I will. COYW.
