Why Fulham should sign a left-back as cover for Antonee Robinson
Fulham have been lucky enough to be witnessing the Prime of Antonee Robinson’s career; he was almost unplayable last season.
However, he has proven that he is indeed human; he has succumbed to an unfortunate injury, which puts him out for the foreseeable future.
Marco Silva gave a Robinson update in his first press conference of the season:
Antonee Robinson remains sidelined following knee surgery at the end of May…
We have a situation with Jedi. He had surgery. He’s not ready, but [there are] good signs from him. Soon, we are going to see him in contention for the games.
But who fills his place? Ryan Sessegnon? I think we really need to drop the idea of him being used as a left-back and start seeing him for the attacker he truly is. He can play in that role for a short period, but that leaves us defensively weaker.
We know Bassey can play in the left-back role, but do we want to take him away from being a Dominant centre-half? I think we are thin in this position.
Which brings me to my question: Should we also be looking for a Robinson Protege in the transfer market this summer? To be honest, I’m surprised we still have him, given his performances last season. Maybe him being injured over the summer led to less attention on him, lucky for us.
Should we be making contingency plans for injuries, or dare I say it, a potential move away?
Wishing Robinson a speedy recovery.
