Fulham vs. Manchester United: Stats and predictions

Since Fulham is back in the Premier League, we played 8 times (Premier League and FA Cup) against Manchester United, we lost 75% of the games and won 25% (considering the FA cup draw as a win as we won at the penalty shoot out).

Both losses during the Premier League games in 2024-2025 were harsh ones as we played well and produced some nice football. The FA Cup game last year was a heroic one for our team. Overall, we have been playing well against Manchester United.

In its last game, Manchester United conceded a goal from a corner (similar to the goal scored by Muniz against Brighton).

We can base our strategy on corners, although we know that it is one of our weaknesses. Fulham is not scoring enough goals on free kicks and corners. And we know that they are looking to recruit a free-kick/set-up pieces coach, so this weakness has been clearly identified. And well, for our first game we did score on a corner, so things could be changing!

It will be a complicated confrontation against Manchester United as they played the counterattack very well against Arsenal and have lots (too much!) talent on the pitch!

Manchester United has some weaknesses, though:

  • At the goalkeeper position, where Onana is no longer the number 1 choice, it appears that Bayindir could have done better by being more physical against Saliba.
  • Once again, many big-name signings for a net transfer spending of 229,7 M€ according to Transfermarkt. These signings have to deliver quickly.
  • All their attack is new with Sesko, Mbeumo and Cunha, and they have to build up their alchemy.

Manchester United impressed me with their great offensive transitions against Arsenal, and they put a big amount of pressure on the ball carrier.

Their offence has a lot of pace, so we are going to have to be wary of that as our central defenders are not renowned for their speed (except Calvin Bassey).

Cunha is their factor X player on offence while Mbeumo acts as the bulldozer who keeps hitting hard while being able to repeat his efforts, and he combines that with pace.

Fulham’s defence and midfield need to play as a block while defending and cut the offensive transitions, and prevent Manchester United from having too much space to prevent them from launching their speedy forwards!

The game will be tough for Fulham, but we can do it as we tend to play very well against big teams, as was the case last year.

Come on, Fulham!
